Route 66 Storefront

Tautfest Home Design Center in Weatherford, OK

TYPE OF PROPERTY: Downtown/Main Street, Route 66 Storefront

THE PROBLEM

Tautfest Furniture and Appliance, a downtown Weatherford business located on Historic Route 66, was the scene of a traffic accident that resulted in one of the cars hitting the storefront’s windows. Tautfest was faced with a rather large problem - how do they repair their historic storefront?

When the car hit the window, muntins broken, wavy glass was shattered, the lower rail was damage as well as the sill. With all of these issues, this home goods store now had a 16 1/2’ wide and 8’ tall window that needed to be replicated.

THE SOLUTION

Tautfest’s solution was to call us at Old Home Rescue and to have a consultation completed to assess and plan for repairs. Based on the consultation, we were able to recommend a custom, replica sash built by our preservation craftsmen.

The replica 36 lite windows a built-in house and then shipped from our facility in Oklahoma City to Weatherford, OK. The reproduction wavy glass was not installed until on-site to prevent any breakage throughout its’ hour journey. The window and glass were installed by our preservation carpenter then painted its final coat over the course of a week in Weatherford.

When reinstalled, the storefront was returned to its original condition following Old Home Rescue’s mantra to “make it look beautiful and like we were never there!”
